COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT— LARGE PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE JEFF PEZZUTTI PARK MASTERPLAN

Our well used Woree Sporting Precinct is ready for a re-design.

Community consultation and sporting club consultation has been done, so plans to upgrade this park are now in our 2-5 year Capital Expenditure program. Together with traffic lights being installed at the Windarra & Rigg Street intersection, this area will be transformed into a safer and more useable area for a broader community use.

Our kids are all looking forward to the multi-purpose courts and re-designed & re-positioned skate rink. There will be more parking and opportunities for our sporting clubs to expand.

WHITE ROCK FISHING PLATFORM

White Rock is home to many young families. It is also a hidden gem with a diverse range of ecology in many areas. With children looking for activities to engage in, what better than fishing? We have some beautiful areas, but as we are in the tropics, crocodiles are an issue.

With the construction of a elevated platform and boardwalk, this site near Tarantino Crescent lends itself to a family friendly venue for locals to fish and enjoy the environment they live in.

Council now has a Fishing Strategy which will assist in our grant applications, to bring this vision into reality.

COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT- LARGE PROJECTS IN THE PIPELINE WHITE ROCK COMMUNITY HALL & RECREATIONAL FIELDS

Prior to being in my role as Councillor, I facilitated youth programs on the southside of Cairns. One of the problems I encountered was that there was no suitable place to hold programs and have community gatherings.

I identified a large site on Tiffany Street that is owned by the State Government and backs partially onto White Rock State School. Previous applications to improve this site had not been successful.

I am delighted to report that now we have a 30+30 year lease thanks to the State Gov., initial community consultation has been done with some great ideas coming through and we have designed a draft Masterplan for this site. Sporting fields, clubhouse, community space, yarning areas and hall are all in the pipeline to be delivered with our 2-5 year Capital Expenditure Projects.
